Kobasew had dressed in all seven Bruins games this season before being traded Sunday, he had only one assist and two penalty minutes on the young season. Weller managed just three points in 36 games last season. Fallstrom is currently playing hockey for Harvard, and will most likely, be a Joe Colborne-esque long term project.
The move appears to be a salary cap deal, dumping Kobasew's $2.33 million salary. The deal may also be a finger-push to the Bruins collective chest. Don't expect Weller to play on the big Bruins much; Sobotka, Marchand, and Lefebvre were all recalled from Providence according to the Globe.
Lucic was also placed on the long-term injured reserve on Sunday, meaning he must miss at least 10 games and 24 calendar days. Lucic broke a finger in the Bruins 3-0 victory over the Stars on Friday.
Marchand and Sobotka both impressed Bruins brass in the pre-season, expect the two to fight it out for the fourth line right wing position.
The Bruins may have made this deal to clear cap space for a trade, either now or at the trade deadline. An underlying hope is that the move will inspire the Bruins and wake them up.
