Well in just over 24 hours, the Bruins will open the season at home (for once) against the Washington Flyin' Ovies. A bunch of media outlets have given their picks for division winners, conference winners, and cup champs, so why not me? I mean, I did win my fantasy hockey league last year, that's got to count for something right? No? Well okay.
Here are my picks/things-I'll-get-made-fun-of-for-later, by conference:
The Capitals are the Eastern Conference version of the San Jose Sharks, built for the regular season, built to score, but not built for a bruising 7-game series. Flyers and Penguins can be flipped in an instant if a major injury occurs. Flyers goaltending worries me but everything else looks lethal. The Devils lost a lot of depth and Marty is starting to show he is human between the pipes, so I have them in 6th. Senators? Yeah, the Senators, they got a good offense and sometimes offense is enough to sneak by on.Western Conference
- Blue Jackets
The Sharks are built for the regular season (see 2008-09). Detroit is Detroit. Blackhawks and Ducks would make for an epic 1st round. The Blue Jackets will win a playoff game. The Kings are ready as long as Jon Quick is ready.Eastern Conference Finals
Western Conference Finals
I really don't want do this...
Penguins over Bruins in 6
Lord Stanley's Cup
Blackhawks over Red Wings in 7
A lot can happen in the next 82G+16W, especially in an Olympic year, but these are my best guesses before I've seen any of these teams currently constructed. Making pre-season predictions is like trying to guess where the door is in a dark room, you'll hit a few obstacles but eventually you'll reach the door, or maybe you hit your shin on a coffee table and people laugh at you. Time will tell.
